In the 1990s, before leaving for Samara, my mother’s friend Ina gave her this piece of fabric. She couldn’t take everything to her new home, so my mother accepted it, thanked her and kept it for me.
Years later, I transformed it into a skirt with a bright-pink waistband and a hidden floral pocket. Ina travelled to Samara; the fabric stayed home and waited for another generation.
With its sale, a pink peony will be planted—a long-lived perennial that can return for generations. A photograph will be shared on our Instagram.
